DRONAISSANCE: SKIES TO CLASSROOMS
Erasmus+ ProjectsProject Description
Drone technology has evolved and thrived in recent years, from technically staffing critical military regions to enticing
enthusiasts all over the world. Individuals, businesses, and governments have realized that drones are used in a variety of
sectors such as shipping, journalism, mapping, safety, monitoring, emergency and agriculture etc. As for education, drones
are a versatile tool for introducing students to STEM and can be integrated across various disciplines while improving their
computational thinking and spatial visualization skills. With drones, students can collect, process, and analyze data to make
informed decisions. They can also program and modify it to complete various tasks. Drones provide a unique platform for
integrating various STEM subjects. Students can explore concepts from multiple fields simultaneously, gaining a holistic
understanding of how these subjects related to each other and their daily lives. Drones are inclusive and equitable and can
help get girls engaged in STEM. Globally, STEM fields tend to be very male-dominated, meaning there are only so many
female role models to look up to for young girls. In 2019, women only accounted for 13% of the drone industry’s workforce
(werobotics, 2021). The survey conducted in the partner schools revealed that %95 of the teachers and students do not
have much information about drones and incapable of using drones. Furthermore, most teachers have no idea about using drones in education and integrating it into their curriculum. In line with the objectives of the European Innovation Agenda on
supporting talent development for boosting Europe’s innovation capacity, developing digital skills and competences and
skills in forward-looking fields, such as combating digital transformation, artificial intelligence, robotics is essential for
Europe's future sustainable growth and cohesion. Therefore the project will bring a great added value to EU’s sustainable
development by integrating drones into education and making use of its advantages. Through this project, we aim to train
teacher not only technically and technologically but also pedagogically and create an environment where students can
actively engage in STEM education, gaining valuable insights into robotics and coding through hands-on experiences with drone technology by providing real-life experiences as well.
